Learning how to walk is one thing. Learning how to take walks is quite another.

We’re actually getting out of the house all the time, but I can’t be bothered to carry my camera when I’m either carrying or madly directing a toddler on the streets. I’ve resigned myself to this and plan to get my cameras up and running more frequently when Dax is a little older. Right now it is just nice walking down the sidewalk hand-in-hand.

I let Dax do this to a Samuel Beckett book. It just felt right.

These are two of our favorite books. Beautiful and interesting illustrations (long-time Quentin Blake fan here) and alternate forms of transportation to boot. D still loves trucks and the Yo Gabba Gabba book that I should never have lent to our shelves (oh, whatever, me), but these go over just as well and he requests them a lot when they’re in rotation. In my head, I always read Mrs. Armitage on Wheels with David Sedaris’ voice.

One of my favorite things about having a bigger kid (20 months coming up!) is sitting at the table together without the need for a high chair. Because we’re on the second floor of a house, we get to watch dog walkers, trucks, buses, cars, and bikes parade past our pulpit. It’s a relaxing new anti-activity.
